Gilberto Tinetti stands with special prominence in the Brazilian musical scene as a pianist of great personality and recognized merit, an award-winning chamber musician and renowned teacher. He studied with Josephina De Felice, Hans Bruch, Magdalena Tagliaferro and Friedrich Wührer and attended interpretation courses with Alfred Cortot.

In 1959 he won the International Competition of the Summer Academy at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Since then, Tinetti has been performing in several countries in Europe and Latin America, as well as the . He held the first hearing of the Concerto nº4 for piano and orchestra by Villa-Lobos in (1970), and was invited as Jury Member of the Music Competition of Canada (1977 and 1987). The Trio Brasileiro, formed in 1975 by Tinetti, Lehninger and Clis, had five LPs and one CD recorded by Philips and Eldorado labels. The CD recorded with Brazilian cellist Antonio Meneses was regarded the best classic title in the year of 1985 by critics. In 2004 he recorded another CD with Trio Brasileiro for the Lami label dedicated to Brazilian contemporary music. Gilberto Tinetti was twice granted the Carlos Gomes Award.
