IRINEU FRANCO PERPÉTUO
A journalist and translator, collaborator of Concerto magazine and juror of TV Cultura’s music competition Prelúdio, Irineu conducts courses and workshops at Casa do Saber and in several premises of Sesc – São Paulo, besides performing as a panelist at the international concert series of Sociedade de Cultura Artística, (São Paulo), at the Festival Virtuosi (Recife) and at the Festival Artes Vertentes (Tiradentes). He has given lectures at instituições as Universidade de São Paulo, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Faculdade de Comunicação Social Cásper Líbero, Universidade de São Petersburgo e University of Texas at Austin.
Working for over two decades as a Brazilian and international music critic, he was correspondent of Ópera Actua magazine (Barcelona) in Brazil, a collaborator of Folha de S. Paulo newspaper and of specialized magazines such as Bravo, Classic CD and Viva Música. He has been a member of the jury in competitions such as the Concurso Internacional de Canto Bidu Sayão and the Prêmio Ernani de Almeida Machado of Orquestra Jovem do Estado de São Paulo, among others. He collaborates with notes for the programmes of institutions such as Teatro Municipal de São Paulo, Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro and Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, whose CDs and DVDs available worldwide bear cover notes written by Irineu.
He is co-author of Populares & Eruditos (Editora Invenção, 2001) with Alexandre Pavan, and the author of Cyro Pereira – Maestro (DBA Editora, 2005) and of the audiobooks História da Música Clássica (Livro Falante, 2008), Alma Brasileira: A Trajetória de Villa-Lobos (Livro Falante, 2011) and Chopin: O Poeta do Piano (Livro Falante, 2012).
Acting as literary translator, he published by Editora Globo, translated directly from Russian, two books by A. S. Pushkin: Pequenas Tragédias (2006) and Boris Godunov (2007). He also translated directly from Russian Memórias de Um Caçador (Editora 34) by Ivan Turgenev, A Morte de Ivan Ilitch (Coleção Folha Grandes Nomes da Literatura, 2016) by Tolstoy, Memórias do Subsolo (Coleção Folha Grandes Nomes da Literatura, 2016) by Dostoyevsky, plus Vida e Destino (Editora Alfaguara, second prize of Prêmio Jabuti 2015) and A Estrada (Editora Alfaguara), by Vassili Grossman.
